Our mission: to love God, love people and make disciples.

Our Beginnings

Glenbrook Baptist Church (GBC) began in 1959 with the purchase of land in King St in Glenbrook, a growing suburb in the lower Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. By 1963, Springwood Baptist Church were in a position both financially and in membership, to start building both the church body, and the building, at Glenbrook. The official opening of the original church building took place on Saturday, 15th February, 1964 and the first full-time minister, Rev. J.R. Strugnell, took up his ministry on 1st July, 1964.

Since that time, GBC has been a constant presence in the Glenbrook community, and we recently celebrated our 60th anniversary. We welcome everyone to come and join us at our Sunday service at 10am in our chapel under the main auditorium.

Our Leadership

Rev Dr David Hames – Pastor

David was born in Auckland, New Zealand. He trained as a Science Teacher at Newcastle University and has taught at several High Schools in NSW. In 1990 he studied at Morling College (NSW Baptist Theological College) and has pastored several churches. Since completing post-graduate studies in 2004, and training as a Baptist church consultant and Intentional Interim Minister, he and his wife Lyn (a former chaplain with Baptist Care) have completed a number of Interims at different churches within NSW with the desire to assist congregations undergoing transition – such as a senior pastor concluding their ministry. David commenced his ministry with GBC in February, 2025. He is passionate about assisting people to know Christ and make Him known, while growing believers and churches to spiritual maturity. In his spare time, David enjoys bush walking, reading, good movies and going on holiday, and enjoys visiting the various groups that meet at the Church Facility! If you’re at the church complex, please come in and say hello.
