Living as a Transformed Disciple
The master longs for us to mature as believers. Jesus seeks for us to develop as disciples. As a church, an aspect of our vision is to “make disciples”.
So how will we do this?
We are commencing a series from the book of Romans. This epistle was written by Paul as a personal introduction. He didn’t know many of the Roman Christians, but the apostle planned to visit them while on his way to Spain. So in about AD 57, he sent them this letter while he was preaching in Corinth.
It’s an introduction to the apostle’s theology and for much of the letter, it is more a theological essay than a letter, because the theme of this epistle is God’s salvation and righteousness for all humanity. With his usual style, Paul outlines his theology in the first 11 chapters and then in chapters 12 to 15, the apostle writes a section that concerns the practical application of this teaching, with a focus on Christian living.
This epistle was widely circulated to the early church. Even the apostle Peter mentions it; while writing on salvation, he notes in 2 Peter 3 verses 15 and16 that “our dear brother Paul writes about salvation in all his letters”.
The Book of Romans has been significant in the life and ministry of the church, and it is important to us as we consider how we can fulfil our vision to make disciples.
For this epistle encourages and instructs us as we seek to grow to maturity in Christ, and to live as transformed disciples.
